Waiting on the promise.

God gave Joseph a dream where Joseph was in a position of power, and his family members were bowing to him. Joseph had to wonder how could this be? What could the dream really mean? When Joseph shared the dream with his family he was met with ridicule. His family must have wondered how this could be, but they weren’t given the dream, they hadn’t experienced it or felt the realness of it like Joseph had.

Over the next 13 years Joseph spent time in a pit that his brothers threw him in, in slavery, in prison, and then yes eventually he made it to the promised position of power.

While Joseph waited for God to reveal what the dream had implied, there was suffering, loss, and betrayal. The promise was always coming, but the people and situations that were around Joseph on the path to promise would have led a lesser man to doubt what God had told him. I’m sure that Joseph had moments of anger or doubt, but the dream God had given Joseph at the age of 17, had to have been the hope that Joseph clung to as he chose to keep moving forward despite any questioning.

I would encourage us all to let go of our timelines but not our dreams. Let go of out visions of how God will bring the promise to life, but do not doubt that God will bring the promise to life.

We must choose to move forward, let hope be the energy that propels us through hardship. Let hope light the way when we can’t see even a glimpse of the promise ahead.

Hold onto hope, hold onto the promise, and don’t stop moving forward.

People will betray, people will ridicule, people will question, but that doesn’t mean that you are not on the path that God intended. Their questions need not be your questions, their doubts need not be your doubts. The dream was given to you, not them. They haven’t felt the warmth and life of the dream you hold. Their heart can’t feel the heart beating in the very alive promise God gave.

Let’s keep our eyes on the promise giver. Let’s live expectant, and let’s move forward in every circumstance.

The Lord was with him; he showed him kindess and granted him favor.” (Genesis 39:21)
